If you’ve been calling yourself lazy lately, you may be on to something.
Except, what if maybe this isn’t “laziness”, but rather something else? Something deeper?
The Exhaustion is Real
A lot of our clients come to see us, saying the same thing: “I just can’t get myself to do things anymore”, or “I don’t know what’s going on for me – I just always feel tired no matter how much I sleep”. Does that sound familiar to you?
How about these:
- Do you struggle to do things?
- Do small tasks feel way bigger than they have before?
- Do you wake up already feeling drained?
- Do you end up feeling guilty for not being able to function at the pace that you used to?
If this sounds like something that you have been experiencing, you’re not alone. It must feel so confusing and frustrating to experience this without being able to pinpoint why. Because we can’t pinpoint the cause of this, we’ll resort to being hard on ourselves and call ourselves “lazy”.
What if I told you that this may not be laziness after all? But rather, stress, burnout, or overwhelm. How does that feel as you read that?
Thing is, sometimes when we feel this unexplained exhaustion and overwhelm, it might be that your body is trying to tell you that something is up. If everything feels like effort, that’s worth paying attention to.
Sometimes, your mind and body are just tired in a way that sleep doesn’t fix. This can happen when you’ve been dealing with a lot for a long time – stress, pressure, anxiety, low mood, or even things you haven’t fully processed yet. Over time, it can make even simple things feel overwhelming. And because it doesn’t always look “serious” from the outside, it’s easy to dismiss it and blame it on being “lazy”. Additionally, the tough part is that the more we dismiss how we feel, the more intense these symptoms can become over time.
Feeling Like Yourself Again
The good news is that there are supports that can help you understand what might be going on, why it’s happening, and what you can do about it. One of these supports is therapy.
At Infinite Horizons Psychotherapy, we often support people who feel stuck in this exact cycle. They’re trying their best, but it never feels like enough. They’re pushing through, but still feel exhausted. In our work, we aim to help you gain clarity about what’s going on so that you may finally feel more sure of yourself, more clear-headed, and can get some long-awaited rest.
You don’t need a breaking point to talk to someone. Let’s get ahead of it.
