FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THERAPY

  • Is what I say to my therapist confidential?
Yes! Honesty is a crucial component of therapy, which means that your confidentiality is of utmost importance. Whatever we discuss in session will remain confidential unless: 1) We believe that you are in imminent danger of seriously harming/killing yourself. 2) We have grounds to believe that you are a danger to others. 3) We have reasonable grounds to believe that a minor/vulnerable person is in need of protection by a person in charge of the child/vulnerable person. 4) Our clinical notes/testimonies are subpeonaed by the courts. See here for more information: https://www.crpo.ca/standard-3-1-confidentiality/02
  • How long does a therapy session last and how often do I need to go?
Free Consultations are 20-mins long. Individual therapy sessions post-consult are scheduled for 50-minutes and Couples Therapy sessions generally scheduled for 75-minutes.
  • How do I get the most out of therapy?
Think of therapy as an investment on your well-being. To get the most out of your therapy sessions, it is beneficial to be an active participant in the process. This means being honest about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It also means being curious and asking questions, being reflective, attending sessions regularly, and letting us know if something is not working for you.
  • What if I don't think I have anything to talk about in a therapy session?
That's totally okay and not uncommon! First, it's important to note that you don't necessarily need to be feeling "bad" in order to come in for a therapy session. In fact, there is great value in coming in for a session when you're feeling well and/or when you don't think you have much to talk about. You'll be surprised at what might come up when you show up to a session, anyway. If nothing else, focusing on what HAS ben helping you can also be a great topic of conversation! You and your therapist will always find something to talk about that is related to what brought you to therapy in the first place.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
In the event that you are unable to keep your therapy session, please notify your therapist at least 24 hours in advance so that someone else may utilize this time. As per our policy, in the event that you cancel your appointment late or do not show up to your appointment, you will be billed for half of a session for the first occurrence, and full price for following occurrences.
  • What happens if I'm late for my therapy session?
Hey, we get it. Life happens! In case you're running late to your therapy session, please let us know as soon as possible. We could keep your appointment for up to 15 minutes. If you can't make it by then, out of respect for our time together, we will need to cancel the appointment and re-schedule.
  • What are the acceptable methods of payment?
We accept electronic payments (credit cards and Visa/Mastercard Interact e-transfers). It's important to note that psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist are covered by most Extended Health Care Benefits from your employer, by Private Insurance plans, or by Student Health plans. To confirm whether your benefits would be able to cover your therapy sessions, we suggest you contact your insurance provider for more information.
  • Do I need a Doctor's referral before booking a therapy session with you?
No, you do not need a doctor’s referral before booking a therapy session with us. However, if you are covered by an insurance plan, there is a small chance that your insurer may require a doctor’s note prior to any therapy session. Please verify with your insurance provider for more information.
